pangaea
a hypothetical super continent that existed in the geological past. Its break-up created the current configuration of landmasses found on the Earth.
media: steel shot and magnets, dimensions: 72”x72”
Clinging to the panel yet perceptibly moveable, the
shot in ‘Pangaea’ convey
a sense of weight that is only superseded by the incredible property
of magnetism. One imagines under what conditions and what millions
of years the shot might
drop with a resounding clamor—shifts in the magnetic poles, an
attenuation of the magnetic force, an increase in gravity? Like the
domino effect or
units in a Tetrus game, moving even just one discrete shot contributes
to a compositional change. The work pays tribute to the accumulation
of small
gestures that contribute to the movement of larger forces like continental
shifts.
